STATESBORO, Ga., March 5, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Homes for Our Troops (www.homesforourtroops.org), a national non-profit organization dedicated to building specially adapted homes for severely injured veterans, will present keys Saturday, March 10 to Army Staff Sergeant Scott Millican.

Staff Sergeant Millican was on his second deployment when he was left paralyzed and suffering from multiple fractures after the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) Vehicle he was riding in rolled over a 250 pound pressure-plated IED in Ghazni, Afghanistan on March 16, 2010. The new specially adapted home, which goes beyond ADA compliance, features open floor plans, automatic door openers, hard-surfaced floors, a roll-in shower, roll-under cooktop, sinks, and more; it will allow him to live with more freedom and independence.
“The Key Ceremony for Scott Millican is an opportunity for us all to say thanks and show our appreciation for his service to our Nation,” said Ken Preston, President of Homes for Our Troops. “Homes for Our Troops is proud to give Scott the freedom and independence he deserves in life as we welcome this brave Soldier and his Family into their new home.”
SSG Millican said receiving a specially adapted home will take away the worry of providing a place for his family to live while allowing him to have full access to all areas of the home without requiring any assistance.
“I will be able to get around the house, do more things for myself and not worry about where I raise my children as we truly live as a family,” he said. “I can focus on being the best father I can be. Thank you for this opportunity.”
