PHILADELPHIA, PA / February 18, 2013 \ DIVERSE NEWS \ Commentary– I remember when Elkins Park had a Philadelphia zip code beginning with 191 – I forget the last two digits.
Anyway, I was shopping today and two black woman were talking about moving there. One was overjoyed when she had asked the other, ‘if there was any government housing’. I did try to find this info myself and couldn’t find any. You’d figure this info would be publicly available but I couldn’t find it. Here is the city-data on Elkins Park.
I was up there over the summer to take someone to a junior varsity game and it sure looked nice. I mean, you would think that government housing would be available for African-Americans there. With crime in the inner city, and kids to raise, there should be.an alternative for folks who want to raise a family living in a safer environment and I think Elkins Park can be that future!
If someone is able to qualify for housing, either through PHA or Section 8, then they should have the right to move where they wish – if they would only build it.
I am speaking prejudicialy though. Like I said, I am unable to find, what should be easily accessed public record, of where government housing is located or available.
